Spinal Decompression for Herniated Discs
For anyone suffering from herniated discs, spinal decompression therapy can be a much-needed, all-natural approach to alleviating debilitating discomfort. As an experienced professional, Dr. Russo knows that herniated discs are a horribly painful problem that patients need fixed immediately.
As an alternative to invasive surgery or risky painkillers, spinal decompression relies on simple physics and geometry to help bring the spine back into alignment, resulting in relief from the throbbing agony of lumbar misalignment.
What is a Herniated Disc?
The spine is made up of a complex network of nerves, ligaments, tendons and delicate bones. Along the spinal column, a series of discs work to keep the back mobile and upright which must all be in place for pain-free movement.
If one of the lumbar discs becomes injured – also known as “herniated” – that particular disc will unnaturally protrude into the sensitive space around it, resulting in pain. Also known as a slipped or bulging disc, this condition creates an unnatural misalignment of the lumbar network and can result in debilitating pain (described by some patients as a 10 out of 10 pain rating).
How Spinal Decompression Helps
Our office utilizes specialized equipment known as a spinal decompression table to treat herniated disc patients. This type of table allows patients to comfortably lay face up or face down (depending on the specific location of the pain) while the table gently stretches the spine to relieve the painful pressure of a herniated disc. Very carefully, the spinal decompression table works to help the lumbar system align back into place, which will alleviate the agonizing pain of a misplaced disc in a relatively short period of time.
